COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course prepares the learner for entry level practice in the Specialty of WOC Nursing.  Practice development materials as well as foundational clinical knowledge that crosses the scopes of the WOC Nursing are the focus of this course. For the novice or nurse who is relatively proficient in WOC Nursing, topics in this course are likely to present a challenge. Developing a WOC Nursing Practice, marketing and role implementation represent foundational knowledge included in the course as well as history of the specialty, legal and ethical issues pertaining to implementation of the role, and professional growth (i.e., WOCN® Society, certification). Clinical topics that cross the scopes of WOC Nursing Practice presented in this course include:  comprehensive patient assessment, evidence-based practice, moisture associated skin damage, education and communications. Two requirements of graduation as a WOC Specialty nurse include completing a clinical practicum (or simulation lab experience) and a final project; both will be explored in this course.
