COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course focuses on the care of the client across the lifespan who may be at risk for skin breakdown, who has a break in skin integrity or who has an existing wound.  Specifically, learners will gain knowledge of the etiology, differential diagnoses, clinical findings and management options of the wounds or skin complications affecting these groups.  Focus will also be on the adept skill of obtaining a physical assessment and health history, incorporating data from diagnostic tests, and documentation of assessments and evaluations to attain optimal client outcomes.

INTENDED AUDIENCE: 

·         Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Nursing

PURPOSE OF ACTIVITY:

This course prepares learners to provide evidence-based, patient-centered wound care for clients across the lifespan who are at risk for skin breakdown, have impaired skin integrity, or experience common wound complications. Learners develop the knowledge and clinical reasoning needed to assess wounds, identify etiologies and differential diagnoses, plan appropriate interventions, and support preparation for specialty nursing certification.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course will address the immediate and long-term care of clients across the life span experiencing acute and chronic health concerns that result in urinary or fecal incontinence. Specifically, the learner will gain knowledge of etiology, differential diagnoses, clinical findings and nursing, medical and surgical management options for urinary and fecal incontinence. Emphasis will be placed on risk reduction, physical examination, physical assessment, diagnostic tests, behavioral interventions, environmental modifications, containment, skin protection, and interventions such as diet and fluid management, pelvic muscle rehabilitation, pessary placement, biofeedback, scheduled toileting programs, pharmacology, and surgery.
